Poem of One World

Poem of One World, from Mary Oliver’s book, A Thousand Mornings, reminds me that while on the precipice of uncertainty, there is an invitation, a choice.  To leap or not to leap; to float or to fly; to stay or run the other direction.  The beautiful white heron naturally unfurls her wings in flight.  Someday, I too shall do the same.

Poem of One World

This morning
the beautiful white heron
was floating along above the water

and then into the sky of this
the one world
we all belong to

where everything
sooner or later
is a part of everything else

which thought made me feel
for a little while
quite beautiful myself.

  1. This is beautiful! I’m not sure I can quite articulate my own reaction, or at least not in a way that fully captures the depth of my experience. However, I find myself drawn into your selections, your eloquent reflections, and your poetry. It’s as if your wonderful way with words is now not only a tool for helping others find peace, but also a pathway for sharing what is within you. You are a gift. Thank you!
